Searchlight: Wolf Alice

Who Are They?
Wolf Alice are a four piece band consisting of Ellie Rowsell (vocals/guitar), Joff Odie (guitar/vocals), Theo Ellis (bass) and Joel Amey (drums). They formed in North London in 2010 as the acoustic duet of Rowsell and Odie. Later they changed line-ups a few times and converted to a more electric sound.

How could their sound be described?
They have quite a heavy rocky sound but they change tempo on many of their tracks, slowing down to a halt, just leaving Rowsell's haunting vocals. This changeable sound makes for interesting listening. The band beautifully craft the soft sounding vocals of both Rowsell and Odie with grungy guitars and drums in a way that keeps you guessing.

Where are they heading?
The band have achieved relatively high popular appeal and I predict that this will carry on in the future as they gain more coverage. They've had quite a lot of play time on BBC Radio 1 and had lots of interest from music magazines/websites such as NME. Their latest album was released earlier this year so they're playing shows at the moment, but I don't think it'll be too long before they come back with more material to keep the ball rolling.
